Q.1 Can I use my data from a Roaming Add-On in more than one country?
A.1 Absolutely! When you are overseas and have one of our Roaming Add-Ons active, you can use the data/mins or texts in any country that is included in that Add-On. For example: If you have purchased '7-Day Roam Pack' then you could use the data in the Aussie then fly to the UK and it will continue to work.
Q.2 Can I use my remaining roaming texts, minutes and data from my Roaming Add-On when I return to New Zealand?
A.2 Unfortunately not, you are unable to use the allocated quota as they are specifically designed to be used by international cell sites.
Q.3 Can I purchase a Roaming Add-On before I leave New Zealand? Is it activated immediately or does it activate when I turn my phone on when I arrive at my destination?
A.3 Yes indeed, you can purchase an Add-On before you leave however you should know that this is activated immediately, so to make the most of the Add-On we recommend you activate when you land in your new destination.
Q.4 Does my Roaming Add-On automatically renew like my regular Plan/Add-On?
A.4 Nope, these are purchased as a one-off. You'll need to manually purchase a second one if required. If you’d like to see your Roaming Add-On balance and how long you’ve got remaining on your Plan/Add-On, check out the Skinny App.
Q.5 Can I use my Roaming Add-On minutes to check voicemail?
A.5 Definitely! When you call to check your voicemail, the minutes used will be from your allocated quota that is in your Roaming Add-On.
Q.6 How do I activate my Roaming Add-On from overseas?
A.6 The easiest way to buy the Add-on is via the Skinny Mobile App, or by texting the word "BUY" and the name of the Add-On to 2424 or by visiting skinny.co.nz
Q.7 Why is my roaming data being used up even if I am not accessing the internet on my phone?
A.7 While you may not be using your internet browser directly, it’s likely your phone is still using the net in the background – such as retrieving emails, getting social media notifications, or auto-updating apps. The best rule of thumb is to ensure your data isn't used up too quickly. Just simply turn your data switch OFF when you do not need to access the internet. Skinny website and Apps are zero-rated while in New Zealand and overseas while roaming so you don’t incur any charges browsing Skinny.co.nz or using the Skinny mobile app.
Q.8 Why didn’t I get a notification that my Roaming Add-On balances were at zero?
A.8 As you use the host network to use data while roaming, issues with their network can cause you to not receive a notification. you can check your balance at any time through the Skinny App, Online or using the 2424 text service. You will also be automatically redirected to the out of data landing page if they run out of data while roaming.
Q.9 Because the minutes in the Roaming Add-Ons are for incoming and outgoing calls, does this mean I won’t be charged $1 for receiving a voicemail?
A.9 That is correct! If you have a Roaming Add-On then calls to check your voicemail will come from your minutes in your Add-On.
Q.10 How do I access my voicemail from overseas?
A.10 First, you’ll need to know your voicemail PIN. This is easy to find out – just follow these simple steps before you go:
Access your voicemail from within NZ as usual
Select option 3 'Change your personal options'
Select option 2 'Change your PIN'
You will now hear your PIN
Then, when you’re overseas, remember to dial the voicemail number with the international prefix – so: +64 204 864 236.
To retrieve a voicemail while overseas you will be charged a standard $1 charge or if you have a Roaming Add-On it will be charged per minute from your Roaming Minutes. Alternatively, you can turn off voicemail while you’re overseas by calling us.
